Faye

Sometimes, things don’t go quite the way you’ve planned. I was laying the groundwork for a 2023 puppy. I spoke to a few kennels that had some really nice litters planned. Although my upper limit is/was ten dogs, I had a new Mega Van pre-ordered, and with Dexter going on 15, figured we could have a bit of overlap.

And then, on July 13th, 2022, my boy Knox unexpectedly died.

And on July 13, 2022, Fate was born.

I was aware of Fate’s litter, and that it was a good one, but homes had long been lined up. But then, eight pups were born, and there was one available. I couldn’t help but inquire. It felt like, well… Fate.

After a nail-biting eight weeks, Lisa and Bekka chose the puppy they named Fate to be mine. She will never replace Knox, but a new pair of bright blue eyes is nice to have around.

In keeping with my space and science themed names, I’ll be calling her Faye for short (I know it’s the same amount of letters—whatever!).

Faye is both short for Fate (her registered name) and the name of a French astronomer (Hervé Faye). There’s a crater on the moon named after Faye.
